Katy Perry and Billie Eilish play LA FireAid show
FireAid Benefit Concert Brings Star-Studded Lineup to Support LA Wildfire Relief
Some of the biggest names in music, including Billie Eilish, Pink, Katy Perry, Nirvana, and Dr. Dre, took the stage on Thursday for FireAid, a benefit concert in Los Angeles aimed at helping the region recover from two of the largest wildfires in its history.
More than 20 artists from diverse genres performed during the five-hour event, which was held simultaneously at two major venues in the city, raising funds for wildfire relief efforts.
Actor Billy Crystal, who lost his home in the Pacific Palisades fire earlier this month, welcomed the crowd at the Kia Forum. Wearing the same clothes he had on when he fled the flames, he shared his personal experience:
"You'll be hearing from many people who were tragically affected by these fires, and I was one of them." Crystal, who had lived in the area for 46 years, spoke movingly about his loss as he opened the show.
Meanwhile, a second concert kicked off at the Intuit Dome, with the online stream switching between both venues. Many of the performing artists have strong ties to Los Angeles. California native Katy Perry waved the state flag while performing hits like California Gurls.
Other notable performances included No Doubt, representing Orange County, and Dr. Dre, who delivered his iconic anthem California Love.
"This is a magical moment for me," Dre told the crowd. "I've got so much love for you guys… I appreciate all the first responders and firefighters who risked their lives. Today, it's all about love."
Billie Eilish teamed up with Green Day for a special duet, with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong rallying the crowd:
"California, Los Angeles, Altadena, the Palisades – we are in this together."
The surviving members of Nirvana—Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, and Krist Novoselic—reunited for the occasion, featuring guest vocalists like St. Vincent and Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon.
Other stars who took the stage included Olivia Rodrigo, Earth, Wind & Fire, Gracie Abrams, Joni Mitchell, Lady Gaga, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rod Stewart, Sting, Stevie Nicks, and Tate McRae.
Among the famous faces in the audience was former Vice President Kamala Harris, spotted at the Intuit Dome.
Raising Funds for Fire Victims
Proceeds from ticket sales and donations made during the concert will go toward rebuilding communities and preventing future wildfires in the region.
At least 28 people lost their lives, and more than 16,000 homes and businesses were destroyed when the fast-moving fires erupted in early January.
Viewers can contribute to relief efforts by donating via text message or visiting FireAidLA.org. The Annenberg Foundation will oversee the funds, ensuring support for both immediate recovery and long-term fire prevention projects.
Additionally, Connie and Steve Ballmer, owners of the LA Clippers and the venues hosting FireAid, pledged to match all donations made during the broadcast.
LA's Devastating Fires
The Palisades and Eaton fires, which ignited on January 7 amid strong winds, quickly became the largest wildfires ever recorded in the LA area. Wind-driven embers spread for miles, consuming entire neighborhoods.
The Palisades fire in northwest LA destroyed nearly 7,000 structures, while the Eaton fire in Altadena claimed another 9,400. Thousands of families were displaced, and the fires took a tragic toll on human lives.
With the support of FireAid and its donors, Los Angeles hopes to recover and rebuild stronger than before.
