Los Angeles comedian passes away at 28

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Rising comedian Ken Flores, known offstage as Kenyi Flores, passed away at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday at the age of 28, according to the Los Angeles Times. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Originally from Chicago, Flores made a name for himself in the Southern California comedy scene, performing alongside renowned comedians like Gabriel Iglesias and Jo Koy. His success allowed him to uplift fellow Latino comedians, particularly through his “LatinXL” show at the Comedy Store in Chicago.

A tribute on the show’s Instagram page honored his contributions:

“LATINXL came from late-night pre-pandemic conversations and backyard shows—an effort to create opportunities for Latino comedians while also giving ourselves a space to grow, bond, and chase our dreams… LatinXL WOULD NOT exist without Ken. The ‘XL’ was a nod to his ‘XTRA large personality’ and undeniable presence, which audiences across the country loved. Our hearts are with his family, and our grief is shared among friends and peers.”

The Hollywood Improv also paid homage to Flores, writing:

“We were honored to share your talent on our stages. You were greatness, and it was only a matter of time before the world saw it. You were also kind and a tremendous friend to those lucky enough to know you. We love you, Ken—thank you for all the laughs.

Comedian Bobby Lee described Flores as a “beast on stage,” while fellow comic Sampson McCormick remembered him as both a gifted performer and a generous soul.

“Ken was a great comic and a cool guy,” McCormick shared. “Sending love to his family.
